Blogologue pt 3: Community

I got comments from that last post where people were "congratulating" me for the stuff I try to do in my community.

That's not what I had hoped for.

I don't need to be congratulated for that any more than for mowing my lawn.

I guess what I wanted to do was encourage a small step on the parts of others. The small things. A smile, a nod-something, anything. A flippin' loaf of banana bread.

Two people that I think, as overcooked as it may sound, are kind of role models for the world are Gandhi and Mother Teresa. I actually am very curious about Mother Teresa and Gandhi too. They are "heroes" to me.

She, Mother Teresa, wrote this. Durn if I wish I hadn't said it first. So some pretty words...

"People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, some could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness some may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have; and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway..."

Didn't i say something along the lines you-do-what-you-re-doing-and-they-will-eventually-change!?

"If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives" Isn't that the truth!?

Hey, mowing the lawn deserves congratulations. I don't even wash the dishes. Heck, I barely flush the toilet these days.

It doesn't take much, but it takes a lot more than some people seem willing to contribute.
