Person of Year.
Paul Hewson, aka Bono from U2. I have been really happy to watch him go from a young musician/rock star figure to uber rock star and now to use alot of intelligence to do good things in the world. He gets my vote. So far I haven't heard of anyone else, esp. not the makers of YouTube. That's like voting for the people who thought up the pet rock. Gimme a break.
Or what about that guy, Muhammed Yunus who is doing microfinancing in poor countries. He basically makes these loans of about 50 to 100 dollars, sometimes less, for a family to buy something that will allow them to make a business to sustain themselves. It's flippin brilliant. He is getting a TON of press, and rich and famous people are lining up to give him money because there just seems to be no down side of what he is doing, bringing families out of poverty. There was a special on NPR and it sounded really amazing.
These two are my picks.
edit: hey you out there in blog land? what is your pick?

I vote for Bono for two reasons:
1) I've been in love with him since junior high.
2) I could totally be wrong, but I thought that other guy (with the BRILLIANT idea) already won the Nobel Prize. If so, let's give Bono a chance!
Makes me want to do more with my life, ya know?
Happy New Year!
Yeah he did win the Nobel Peace Prize, but I still have the vague idea that probably most people dont know who he is (when I first made the post I was referring to his as "that guy" and had no idea what his name was or where he was at, and I listen to the news). He is so inspiring that I want there to be this message of "see we haven't done everything yet to bring equality and end hunger/poverty". I think he could inspire anyone who heard about what he is doing. I do have huge admiration for Bono though, I think its a tie.
I'm voting for Bono, hoping he can help spread the word about what Mohammed Yumas is doing.
But wasn't Bono co-person of the year w/ Bill and Melinda Gates last year? Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that if you go here, you can get the HTML code to put a link to the Grameen Foundation (Yumas' site) on your blog sidebar.
Yeah you're probably right Jane, thanks for the link, I should look into it a little more since he has piqued my interest.
