On Presidents Day I will take delivery of the Whirlpool Duet front loading washer. I got it for half of the full retail (paid 450 instead of 900) and am eligible for 180 + 85 in tax credits. This means that a washer that normally retails for 900 is costing us less than 200 dollars.
Let's just stop and think about how amazing that is. Sigh.
But (there is always a big but) I have read so many customers reviews either raving about this machine or talking about terrible mold problems. Plus terrible customer service, not a single person had a good thing to say. Considering folks spent 1000 plus for this washer (when it was a newer model) the idea of having the problems that people report is a little worrisome.
Props to Lowe's though, for the bargain. Let's hope I am one of the lucky ones.
So all the tile came up, the black hideous tile that we sang happy songs to be rid of. The hideous tile that looks perpetually dirty and is about 50 years old is gone! Glory be. And, I am on laundry vacation until they come hook it up in a week.
I hope I didn't just buy a lemon.

Heaven help us
When your washing machine is leaking and making some old tiles in your house come up, you know you have grown up problems.
When you have to pull up tiles and be concerned about asbestos adhesive, you have problems.
When the big excitement in your life is new floor covering, you have grown up.
When you are considering purchasing an 800 dollar washing machine with your tax refund, you either have mental problems, or you are being wise with your money. Either way, that much for an appliance as un glamorous as a washing machine most certainly makes you a grown up.
When you spent all weekend doing taxes, you are a grownup.
When you spent all weekend doing them months before they are due, you are also a responsible grownup. Either that or you are fearful to owe taxes because you don't file quarterlies.
Either way, I am excited about a front loading washing machine (think of all the energy we'll save! And all the water! And all the detergent!! happy dance for strange things here) and because I don't owe on taxes at all, in fact, we will buy that frontloader with our refund.
When I get it, I am going to post a picture of it. MUahhahaha.
Actually, when I lived in a house in 99 and the owners bought a front loader, we used to watch it wash. We all did. And they were actually pretty hip sorts. So I am not sincerely going to concern myself with how twisted it seems to be excited about an efficient washing machine.
the next will be the roomba. We will have a party to watch it. You are invited.

Admit it
C'mon, admit it. If a little girl pressed her face into your cheek and said "Kiss? Happy! Happy! Happy! Thankyou Momma," wouldn't you play her stupid music like The Wiggles just to see her smile?
I am listening to this stuff, and it is just really a basic cross between the Cab Calloway (which she already has memorized--ok ok, she say's"Hey now!" when I walk to the stereo, by way of request I am guessing) and a few choice Beatles songs (beep-beep, beep-beep, yeah! Baby you can drive my car...) with basic children's stuff in the mix. Brilliant, these guys I am sure are laughing all the way to the bank. Marketing. Good ideas.
What about childrens music selections CD's that aren't vaguely mindrotting to their parents?
